APPROACH CHORDS: A Practical Guide to Improvisation

You may sometimes wonder at the way some improvisers manage to do so much over a simple chord. It could be that they use various chords to approach their target chord.
One of the simplest ways to approach a C7, say, is a with a Gm7 chord.
This book looks at other ways to approach the C7,
and the Cm7 chord
and the C maj7
Some of these approaches can be quickly assimilated into your improvisation while the more 'outside' ones will require a bit of wood shedding /preparation. A similar book of mine is called '251'. Although the material
in 'approach chords' is new and covers more chords, the two books complement each other.
